I designed the collector’s edition packaging for Attack on Titan – Season 1 Collection 1, Madman’s first premium box sets for the franchise. The goal was to deliver a high-impact physical product tailored specifically for the ANZ market while distinguishing it from international versions. Including metal key chains (licensor supplied), collector pins (licensor supplied), and an art/info booklet that was redesigned and reformatted based on the USA release.
hardbox
The hardbox design was purpose-built for the local market and diverged quite a lot from the Japanese and American versions. Visually, I leaned into the moody, apocalyptic tone of the series by incorporating dark gradients and bloody textures to match the primary keyart (featured on the front of the box). Metallic red and charcoal tones echoed the anime’s themes of violence, resistance, and loss.
Artbook
As part of the Collection 1 box set, I was responsible for reformatting and redesigning the 22-page companion artbook Notes from Beyond the Wall: Part I for the ANZ region. This included adapting licensor-supplied content such as translated text, design sketches, and production stills into a clean, narrative-driven layout that respected the tone and lore of the series. Care was taken to create an editorial feel while still tying in with the box set’s dark visual identity. Typography, page pacing, and image selection were all carefully considered to give fans a deeper appreciation of the world and characters—without overwhelming the visual flow.
FILLER card
To keep all the collectible elements neatly secured within the box, I designed a custom filler card that would act as a structural insert. Using a repeating pattern sourced from the official style guide, I created a clean, thematic visual that complemented the rest of the packaging. A concise list of contents was placed along the foldable spine for clarity, ensuring the piece was both functional and visually aligned with the premium presentation.
STANDARD EDITION
The standard edition Blu-ray & DVD carried over the collector’s look while being adapted for shelf visibility and regulatory guidelines. I created disc art that matched the gritty aesthetic of the series — layering distressed textures with supplied fine-line illustrations of key characters, in dynamic poses. The result kept the tone raw, dramatic, and refined while servicing the mass market.
Attack on Titan – Season 1 Collection 2
Role: Print/packaging designer, digital designer.
Timeline: 2017 (collector’s edition release).
Programs used: Photoshop, InDesign.
Demographic: Collectors and anime fans, mid-teens to adults.
Skills involved: Packaging layout, style guide adherence, art direction, print-ready setup, design for paid social ads.
For the second Attack on Titan – Season 1 collector’s box set, I designed the premium packaging and localised assets alongside licensor-supplied collectibles such as character tapestries, a thematic strap, and a lenticular art card. While some items were provided, the hardbox and “Notes from Beyond the Wall” artbook were designed and adapted specifically for the ANZ market. The goal was to deliver a polished, fan-focused collector’s edition with a unique regional identity
hardbox
As with Collection 1, the hardbox was designed to be distinct from its overseas counterpart, giving the ANZ release a unique identity. The visual language stayed true to the show’s dark atmosphere, while ensuring the set felt premium and collectible. A blue palette tied closely to the series’ key art, reinforcing the cold, moody tone Attack on Titan is known for.
“Notes from Beyond the Wall” Artbook
I reformatted and designed the 22-page Notes from Beyond the Wall: Part II artbook using licensor-supplied artwork and annotations. The layout paired clean typography with production stills, concept sketches, and translated text. My aim was to create a thematic, premium-feel booklet that deepened the fan experience while aligning seamlessly with the overall box set aesthetic.

Designed the continuation of the Attack on Titan collector line with a Season 2 set that felt fresh yet consistent on the shelf. A green colour system was introduced to clearly distinguish it from Season 1’s blue/brown palette and to echo the season’s more earthy, forest-set tone. Typography, imagery, and spine treatments were aligned with past releases so fans could build a cohesive, premium collection without too much visual repetition.

UNBOXING VIDEO EDIT
Created an unboxing video with a light, playful tone to show off the product’s details and surprise factor. The informal style helped humanise the product, drive social engagement, and contributed to strong sales performance and positive fan feedback.

Canvas ad
For Season 2 promotion, I designed a Facebook Canvas Ad (an interactive, scrollable ad unit) to showcase the collector’s set. The layout combined stacked visual elements—hero artwork, motion clips, product imagery, and CTAs—into a mini “showcase page” that fans could explore within the platform. One proposed interactive panorama element was ultimately not implemented, but the final design successfully highlighted the set’s premium features in a mobile-first, immersive format.
